About Dr. Adi Avivi

I am a licensed clinical psychologist, an AEDP level 3 therapist, and a Certified Group Psychotherapist in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Before establishing my own private practice, I worked as an assistant professor and supervising clinical psychologist at Columbia University Medical Center and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center – Zucker Hillside Hospital. I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from LIU Post and completed my internship at Kings County Hospital Center.

I teach group psychotherapy as a faculty member of The Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society’s (EGPS) training program, and I have been working with group psychotherapy organizations throughout the country on dismantling oppression in clinical and organizational settings.

My approach to psychotherapy, teaching, and supervising draws on multiple schools of thought including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, art therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and relational psychotherapy. I am guided by trauma healing, feminist, queer, and anti-oppression theories.  My style is interactive and practical, and is infused with sensitivity and humor.

I have extensive experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community, Childfree people, polyamorous/ethical non-monogamous, people with multiple aspect of marginalized identities, and stressed out New Yorkers of all kinds.
